Introductions

I have been going back and forth on the idea of making a blog about this issue for a few weeks now and have decided to do it, if I am the only person that reads this then that's okay because it helps me collect my thoughts but if anyone else ends up reading this then I hope you find some use in what is happening with me.

As this is the first post I should outline the issue that I'm facing, I went travelling to Europe 1.5 months ago(hard life I know) and when I was away I aggravated an old lower disk injury in my back. It was one of the hardest weeks of my life because I wasn't home so I didn't know where to get help and in the 1 week that I was injured and overseas I traveled to 4 separate countries so that meant buses, trains and planes... constantly. Constant pain eventually led me to get the strongest dosage of painkillers(aka Codeine) I could legally buy in London which got rid of the pain pretty much. Not only was the pain out of control but when I got home and got it sorted out I started experiencing weakness in my left leg and numbness in my left foot, turns out the disk had bulged into a cluster of nerves that was causing these symptoms.

So that's the issue, the big annoyance though was that prior to going away I had made the decision to get fit upon my return and was really excited about it, I had made plans and thought up ideas and was devastated when I figured out just how messed up I was. This being a recurring injury that has come back a few times in the last few years has led me to finally get fed up with it all and for once and for all I am going to take the slow road to recovery and do exactly what my physio tells me to.

For the first 3-4 weeks all I did with my physio was deal with the nerve issue and try to temper that, which pretty much consisted with me lying on my bed and doing pain reduction type exercises like nerve glides and back arches every hour but after the symptoms went down a fair bit I started doing core strengthening exercises (Yay for something that vaguely resembles exercise!!) to stabilise my lower back and other muscles needed to keep my back from falling apart again.

So right now I am in the middle of the first phase of core strengthening and leg exercises which i do at home and at my physio in a reformer bed class which is really helping. I plan on not just talking about my rehab but also about my exercise routines, recaps of days, motivation and anything else that comes to mind.
